The Industry Permanent Market

2012 has seen further growth in the number of International organisations arriving in Ireland which has led to an increased number of permanent placements in this arena. The banking & financial sector has also shown a preference for Chartered Accountants for roles in Risk, etc. While the first quarter was relatively quiet, the last 4-5 weeks have shown an increase in requirements from both multinational and domestic companies alike. Given a largely positive start to the year for most organisations we would be optimistic that requirements for fully qualified accountants will continue to grow over the year.

Salary survey

Candidates with 2-5 years post qualification experience are in demand. Candidates with industry experience are often a pre-requisite coupled with a working knowledge of a recognised ERP system. Currently we have seen a number of requirements where integration/migration or project accounting experience are an advantage.

The Temporary & Contract Market

Contract market is very strong and in particular for newly qualified Chartered Accountants. Those who are looking to bridge the gap and gain Industry experience and have a Big 4 or Top 10 background are very well disposed. Continued high demand for ACA(Chartered Accountants) recently qualified Accountants from Big 4 or Top 10 firms & they really have the pick of the MNC’s, exposure to US MNC’s while in Audit is highly regarded as is reporting under US GAAP. SAP or Oracle ERP exposure is also a strong advantage. The future looks strong and there is a high demand especially from Pharmaceutical companies.

Accountancy Practice & Consultancy Services

In the practice environment currently we are experiencing high demand in Audit, Internal Audit , Taxation and Corporate Recovery particularly in the top 10 practices which have been hiring readily in the last 6 months.
In general, the market for newly qualified and experienced Chartered Accountants is very good in Accountancy Practices. SMP’s (Small & Medium sized practices) are now hiring in earnest and green shoots are very tangible.

There is a renewed demand for Corporate Recovery specialists in practice also. Many accountants qualifying in the last year see their future in Industry or FS roles rather than practice and I am seeing an inclination on their part to move away from practice opportunities. Big 4 firms are seeking other Big 4 auditors and tax professionals at the moment but there is reluctance to consider this perceived sideways move at the moment. The cultures in each of the Top firms is improving however due to this competitiveness for key personnel.

In the months ahead practices will target new tax professionals to contend with the busy Autumn workload and subsequently require Auditors for the busy new year audits.
